Budget session, Assembly begins
July, 29th 2009

The budget session of the Puducherry assembly will begin from August 3, with the customary addess by the new Lt Governor Iqbal Singh.

Chief Minister V Vaithilingam, holding the Finance portfolio will present the full budget on August 5. This will be his first budget since he assumed the post after replacing N Rangasamy on September 4 last year.

This will also be the first full budget session after the Lok Sabha poll on May 13 in which Congress nominee V Narayanasamy (who has since become Union Minister of State for Planning, Parliamentary Affairs and Culture) wrested the lone Lok Sabha seat from PMK.

The Assembly has 30 elected members and three nominated members. The Congress has 10, DMK seven, PMC and Independents three each. The opposition AIADMK has three members, PMK two CPI and MDMK one each. The three nominated members are one each on the side of Congress, CPI and PMK.
