While government may have cleared some air over the continuation of the new income-tax return form 2F which is replacing Saral, its job of explaining it is far from over.
The revenue department has now been asked by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance to explain the need for introducing the new form, that asks assesses to furnish details of their annual cash flow. The Committee has sought clarifications about the Form from the ministry, government sources told ET.
The new form which was unveiled on June 3 raked in huge controversy with even the Congress Party going vocal about its reservations on it. The report of the panel is expected to be tabled in the session and may add further fuel to the already raging controversy over the form.
