First time filing ITR? A guide to ITR forms

It is that time of the year when you need to file your income tax returns and if you just got your first job then no need to worry because this article will tell you all you need to know about ITR forms. There are seven ITR forms which are easily available on the income tax official website. Before filing your income tax return you need to know which form is for you.

Read the article to find out which of the seven ITR forms you need to fill in order to file your income tax return.ITR

1: This form is called 'Sahaj'. It is applicable to only resident Indians only. If you are a salaried person or are a pensioner or if you get your income from single house property or other sources then this is the form that you need to fill. It is for those individuals whose income is not more than Rs 50 Lakh.

ITR 2: This form is for the individuals and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) whose income comes from salary or pension, single or multiple house property, capital gains or any other source like a lottery etc. This form is not for you if your income comes from profits and gains of a business or profession.

ITR 3: If your income comes from profits and gains of any business or profession then you need to fill this form to file for income tax return. This form is for both individuals as well as Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs).

ITR 4: This form is also called 'Sangam' and is applicable to individuals, HUFs and firms as well. If your income is computed as per the rules under section 44AD, 44ADA and 44AE then, you need to fill this form to file your income tax return.

ITR 5: This form is applicable to you if you do not fall into the category of those individuals or companies who are filing

ITR 6.ITR 6: Only those companies need to fill this form which do not claim exemption under section 11.

ITR 7: This form is for individuals as well as companies who file for return under sections 139 (4A), 139 (4B), 139 (4C), 139 (4D), 139 (4E) and 139 (4F).
