Haryana's excise department is exploring new ways to increase its revenue by expanding tax net and enforcing existing laws strictly.
Despite sluggish economy, the department collected Rs 20,000 crore revenue in 2012-13, which was 9.45% more than a year ago, said Kiran Chaudhry, minister for excise and taxation. She was addressing a state-level conference of Assessing Authorities in Gurgaon on Tuesday.
"Senior officers will keep on visiting districts across the state to review and audit tax collection process from time to time. They will also educate field officers on new rules," she said.
Chaudhary asked deputy excise & taxation officers to file their reports regularly. Financial commissioner and principal secretary of excise department Rajan Gupta said two Taxation Inspectors would be attached with each Assessing Authority for speedy recovery of taxes.
