The newly formed Young Leaders' Organisation (YLO), alongwith Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) promoted Young Indians (YI), will host 'The Young Leaders World Summit - India Edition' - at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) between June 6 and June 9, 2008.
The summit will aim at training students in global issues by conducting sessions similar to United Nations' General Assembly, Economic and Social Council, and Security Council during the four-day event at the premier institute.
While YI received over 1,000 applications, the organisation has shortlisted around 400 students for the event, of which close to 40 students will be representing campuses from Gujarat including Mudra Institute of Communication, Ahmedabad (MICA), National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Gandhinagar, and IIMA. Students from various disciplines like engineering, business, technology and architecture will be participating at the summit.
"Students are being taken through rigorous training sessions to prepare them in the protocol of the UN. As many as 21 global issues like disarmament, world prices, and inflation will be debated upon. The sessions will also comprise resolutions that will be later sent as a report to the UN," said Rahul Mirchandani, national vice-chairman - Young Indians.
The other campuses participating in the event include IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, IILM, St Stephens Mumbai, ICAI and ICFAI.
