Shares of Torrent Pharmaceuticals surged over 7 per cent after 1.72 million shares of the company, or 2.03 per cent of its equity, changed hands on the BSE in a block deal at Rs 158 each. Details of the buyer and seller were not available.

At 10:15 am, the company's shares were up 7.65 per cent at Rs 166 with volume traded at 26,57,451 against two-week average of 17,205 shares.
