Jaya seeks reply from Finance Minister
June, 05th 2008

In a three page reply to Finance Minister P Chidambaram, AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa has launched a scathing attack on his ministery for underplaying her concerns regarding foreign investments in Indian markets, that could post a threat to National security.

Jayalalitha claimed that by dismissing her charges as 'totally baseless' the Finance Minister has chosen to launch a personal diatribe against her, displaying a complete lack of undersands on the FII regime that is in force'.

Her three page press statement on her personal letterhead with her signature on it, is an open letter to the FM, with 10 questions listed out, answers to which has been sought from the FInance Ministry in the next 24 hours.

The three page press statement read Jayalalithaa saying, "Instead of clarifying the issues raised by me, the Union Finance Minister at the behest of its Harvard educated Finance Minister has chosen to launch a personal diatribe against me. Let me request the Union Finance Ministry to rise above pedantry and not to resort to skullduggery, at least on matters concerning national security and credibility of our financial sector. Will our Harvard-educated Finance Minister who accuses me of 'maliciously trying to spread misinformation furnish the answers to these questions immediately i.e. within the next 24 hours."

Ealier, Jayalalithaa alleged that the Finance Minister was jeopardising India's security and sponsoring economic terrorism as 'dirty' money was finding its way into the country through Participatory Notes. Reacting to the same, Chidambaram said that the allegations were purely out of malicious design to spread misinformation and reflected a complete lack of understanding of the FII regime in force.
