Chandigarh reduces VAT on petrol, LPG
June, 12th 2008

Chandigarh Administration today notified a cut in value added tax on petrol and LPG, reducing their prices by Re 1 per litre and Rs 13.50 per cylinder respectively in the city to cushion the burden after the Centre increased fuel prices.

The new rates would be applicable from June 12, an official release issued here today.

Earlier, the Centre had raised petrol, diesel and LPG prices by Rs 5 per litre, Rs 3 per litre and Rs 50 per cylinder.

Chandigarh administration reduced VAT on normal petrol from 22 per cent to 20 per cent and abolished 4 per cent VAT on cooking gas.

However, the administration did not tinker with VAT rates on diesel.
