Delhi govt Tax Deptt seizes vehicles carrying goods for VAT |

The Tax department of Delhi government has seized 219 vehicles and imposed a penalty of Rs 45 lakh on them in the last one week for allegedly carrying goods without paying Value Added Tax (VAT). Tax department officials said most of the trucks seized during the drive carried gutkha and mobile phones, officials said. The drive was carried out across the city by enforcement teams of the tax department. They said 123 trucks were also seized for allegedly carrying goods without valid papers. The department had seized 828 vehicles last month for similar offences and realised a penalty of Rs 3.18 crore. It had seized a total of 4,537 vehicles last year for allegedly carrying goods without paying VAT and had collected a total of Rs 22.46 crore as fine.
