May, 10th 2011

Eighteen-year-old Indian-origin Shaah Bootha has become South Africa's youngest chartered accountant.

Bootha graduated yesterday from the North-West University, receiving a Bachelor of Commerce in chartered accountancy degree.

The whiz kid passed 8th, 9th and 10th grades in one year and 11 and 12 grades also in just a year at home where Bootha's parents Prof Akbar Bootha, Shireen were his teachers.

Bootha senior is the director of the School of Accounting Sciences at the University where his son studied and has now enrolled for an honours degree in chartered accountancy.

Two sisters of Shaah, Farzeen, 22, and Saffiyyah, 24, are also studying chartered accountancy at the same university.

Bootha wants to start his career in New York.
