Recovering from early losses, the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex on Tuesday rose by 108 points at midsession trade on emergence of buying.
The Sensex, which had plunged to 16,744.13 at the outset, bounced back with a gain of 108.09 points to 16,943.65 points at 1230 hrs.
Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty rose by 31.20 points to 5,091.10 at the same time. It had touched the days low of 5,024.25 points.
Trading sentiment turned better at midsession after a firm opening of European markets. Britains FTSE 100 gained 1.13 per cent in early trade, brokers said.
Engineering giant Larsen & Toubro gaining over 4 per cent to Rs. 1,670 after higher quarterly earnings supported the uptrend, they added.
Market leader Reliance Industries rose by 1.30 per cent to Rs. 1,030, and Infosys Technologies by 0.31 per cent to Rs. 2,623.85.
