BCCI slapped with I-T notices over TDS
May, 17th 2008

The Income Tax department has issued notices to cash-rich BCCI, asking why it has not deducted tax at source before paying the contract money to the players.

According to Finance Ministry sources, the notices were issued sometime back and further inquiry was on as it is mandatory for an organisation to furnish information every quarter regarding Tax Deduction at Source (TDS).

The notices were sent as a part of routine process, the source said. BCCI, which is one of the richest sports bodies in the world, is exempt from payment of tax.
