House tax: MC mulling action against those whose cheques have bounced
April, 12th 2013

In its bid to recover maximum house tax, the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation is planning to file cases against owners of properties whose cheques have bounced.

As per sources, the maximum number — 90% — of bounced cheques are from Zone D where posh localities and shopping malls are located.

MC additional commissioner Davinder Singh said, "MC can also file criminal cases against parties whose house tax cheques have bounced. The option is open."

Sources said that a cheque of shopping mall on Ferozepur road had also bounced. The cheque amount ran into crores. However, the MC refused to disclose the name of the mall. The MC recovered Rs 91.71 crore as the house tax for 2012-13 till March 31.
