Tax | Indirect tax collectionin FY10 at Rs2.44 trillion

According to a finance ministry official, who did not want to be named, central excise collection for the year was Rs1.04 trillion, 4% higher than the revised estimate.

Total indirect tax collection for 2009-10 was Rs2.44 trillion, lower by Rs280 crore compared to the revised estimates for the year.

The excise collection received a boost in March following an increase in the median Central excise rate in the Union Budget. Customs collection during the year was Rs83,936 crore, marginally lower than the revised estimate. Service tax collection for the same period was Rs55,557 crore, around 4% lower than the revised estimate.
