Markets off day's high - (23.04)
April, 23rd 2010

Markets are off the day's high on declining metal stocks. The Sensex is now up 66 points at 17,639. The Nifty is up 16 points at 5285.

The markets have opened positive on mixed cues from global markets.

The Sensex opened at 17534. The index touched a high of 17,693 is now up 84 points at 17,657.

The Nifty is at 5,292 - up 23 points.

US markets ended on marginally higher.The Dow climbed nine points to 11,134. The Nasdaq added 14 points to 2,519.

Asian markets, however, are mostly in red this morning. The Hang Seng has dropped 114 points 21,340. The Nikkei has slipped 34 points to 10,915.

The BSE oil & gas space has jumped 1% to 10,129. The bankex, IT and PSU indices have also moved up. However, the FMCG, Metal and healthcare sectors are marginally down.

Reliance has buoyed the markets in opening trades ahead of its results. The stock has gained 1.7% at Rs 1,094.

Wipro has jumped 2.6% to Rs 722 after announcing a net profit of this quarter.

SBI has added 1.5% to Rs 2,257. ICICI Bank has moved up 1% to Rs 954. DLF and Hindustan Unilever has also added nearly 1% each.

However, Sun Pharma has been unable to recover from yesterday's fall. The stock is down 1.5% at Rs 1,684.

Sterlite has dripped 1.4% to Rs 793.
