In light of the fact that there is no other option but to invest compulsorily in the broader markets - midcaps and small caps - are there opportunities available right now?
Opportunities gallop but frankly there is some hard work which people have to do. There are no bargains at the end of the direct flight if you like and large size companies - something which are 1000-1500 crore companies - are still available at sub 6,7,8, 9 PEs.
When I am talking about these kind of companies, I am also in the same breadth mentioning that they are debt free. But you got to go fishing and you got to hunt properly and at the same time I would urge people to be a little patient with themselves because what I see happening is tremendous churn. Everyday individuals want their portfolios to go up.
So there is huge pressure to kind of outperform the competition. So because of that there is a huge churn and by definition then you become a little more short term but that in itself provides opportunities for investors because recently I picked up a stock which was being dumped by some wholesale investors and that stock is up significantly since I picked it up.
So you got to keep an eye out. This is a full-time kind of activity but I do not for a minute believe that in any market there will be not enough opportunities because frankly there are other ways to look at it.
People like me are always short of cash, we are not short of ideas so the allocation game has to go on and clearly along with that you have to keep booking profits as well.
What happens is that majority of the people believe that if they have invested thats thing done, job done and they will revisit it after several years or decade thats what they like to believe but in the meantime things like 2008, 2003 keep happening.
So you have to be alert here but to say that the India story will not move on, I think is effectively losing out on a very big opportunity.
