Within days of serving notice to KPH Dreams Cricket, the owners of Kings XI, for the payment of service tax arrears of around Rs 5.38 crore, commissionerate of central excise and service tax in Chandigarh has brought Yuvraj Singh and his teammates under its scanner.
Yuvraj Singh, VRV Singh, Uday Kaul, Sunny Sohal and Rishi Dhawan have been asked to furnish details of payments they have received from KPH Dreams, a franchisee of IPL, which has come under IT and Central excise scanner these days.
Besides demanding the copy of agreements signed by players with their franchise owner and the payments received by them,
the commissionerate has also asked them to provide the details like service tax registration number, details of service tax if paid, copies of service tax returns if filed and complete books of accounts and the balance sheets, officials said.
Unwilling to be identified, the officials from service tax commissionerate confirmed about the notices served to Yuvraj and teammates, but expressed inability in elaborating more when asked about the purpose of serving the notices.
"These players are residing in our area. Hence we have sought certain details from them in accordance to Section 14 of the Service Tax Act," one of the officials said.
