Indirect tax revenues of the government during April-February gained 22.2% as compared 10.7% of that of direct tax revenues. The indirect and direct total tax collections until February-end stood at Rs 13.89 lakh crore, which is 81.5% of the target of Rs 16.99 lakh, as per the revised estimate for 2016-17.
While total indirect tax read at Rs 7.72 lakh crore and total direct taxes stood at Rs 6.17 lakh crore, mainly driven by powerful excise duty and personal income tax collections. From April 2016 to February 2017, excise duty collections witnessed a growth of 36.2% at Rs 3.45 lakh crore.
Whereas, service tax collection increased 20.8% at Rs 2.21 lakh crore and custom duty collections came at Rs 2.05 lakh crore seen a growth of 5.2%.
