The facts related to the seizure are as follows:
Information was being received for quite some time that
certain persons of Indore were indulged in illicit trafficking of
Psychotropic Substance Alprazolam. These traffickers were
obtaining Alprazolam from industry through licit channels by using
forged/ fake documents such as Drug Licence issued by State F.D.A
and diverting them into illicit channels at huge profit. The officers of
the department were sensitized on the issue and were directed to
collect fruitful information in this regard.
The bureau obtained actionable information that one Thakur
Singh Makwana of Indore was planning to sell illicit Alprazolam in
huge quantity to Narendra Singh of Mandsaur on 5.03.2013 at
Gommatgiri gate, Indore- Depalpur road, Indore and the same was
developed.
Consequently, on 5.03.2013, a plan was laid out and a
preventive party of Central Bureau of Narcotics seized two separate
containers each having 25 kgs of Alprazolam found in the dickey of
a car. The search of the said vehicle also led to a further recovery of
certain documents such as consignment note, invoice etc.
addressed to one Medideal Pharma, Indore which prima-faciee
appears to be fake. Statements of all the three persons under
Section 67 of NDPS Act, 1985 reveals that the said consignment of
Alprazolam was obtained by them using forged documents by
Thakur Singh Makwana from a Bengaluru based pharma company
in the name of Medideal Pharma and was trying to sell the
consignment of 50 kgs of Alprazolam to a third person Narendra
Kumar Jain r/o Mandaur @ around Rs. 20000/kgs. All the three
persons were consequently arrested under Section 8/22 C of NDPS
Act, 1985. Both the vehicles have been seized under relevant
provisions of the Act.
Here, it is pertinent to mention that Alprazolam, a
Psychotropic substance of benzodiazepine group, is widely being
used as an adulterant to Heroin to the extent that it has been
termed as "Synthetic Heroin". The Psychotropic substance
Alprazolam can only be purchased by licences subject to conditions
of the licence given by State FDA. Sale of Alprazolam, a scheduled
"H" drug under the Drug and Cosmetics Act, 1940 is banned to
non- licencees.
