SC to hear PW auditors bail plea
March, 15th 2010

Price Waterhouse auditor Subramani Gopalkrishnan, who was arrested in the Rs 7,136-crore Satyam fraud for allegedly conniving with its founder B Ramalinga Raju and other aides, on Friday moved the Supreme Court seeking bail.

A bench headed by Chief Justice KG Balakrishnan posted the matter for hearing on March 19. The bail plea of Gopalakrishnan, who was also accused in the accounting fraud at Satyam Computer Services Ltd along with another auditor Talluri Srinivas, was rejected by the Andhara High Court in December last year.

However, Srinivas has got bail from the apex court on February 3 after it was asked to furnish a personal bond of Rs 20 lakh and two sureties of like amount and surrender of his passport as the condition of his release on bail.

Even disgraced Satyam Computers founder and ex-chairman B Ramalinga Raju on Thursday approached the Supreme Court seeking bail in the multi-crore financial fraud case.

Raju has challenged the Andhra Pradesh High Court judgement of February 19 that dismissed its bail petition on the ground that he was suffering from serious cardiac and other health problems and was willing to abide by any conditions imposed by the apex court for his release.

The auditors were arrested on January 24, 2009 on charges of conspiring in the fraud and had been in judicial custody since then at the Chanchalguda central jail in Hyderabad .

The auditors while denying any criminal wrongdoing in its appeal had said his role was minimal and had charged CBI with adopting an unprofessional approach by linking all the accused.

CBI, which is probing the Satyam fraud and had filed chargesheet against Raju and eight others including the two auditors, has been opposing the bail pleas.
