Tax Freedom Day is the first day of the year in which a nation as a whole has theoretically earned enough income to fund its annual tax burden. It is the day when you stop working for the government and start working for yourself. First developed in 1948 by Florida (USA) businessman Dallas Hostetler, who trademarked the phrase "Tax Freedom Day" and calculated in each year for the next two decades. In 1971, the trademark was transferred to the Tax Foundation by Hostetler at his retirement. India's Tax Freedom Day (TFD) is March 14.
