Filmdom to protest against service tax
February, 15th 2012

With no response from the Union Government to the memorandum submitted by South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce(SIFCC) and Film Federation of India (FFI) to withdraw the service tax on film industry, the SIFCC and FFI have jointly given a call for a bundh on? February 23.

It is known that the film industry is deteriorating day by day for one or the other reasons. The industry is already paying other taxes, including entertainment tax, to the government. The newly levied service tax is another extra burden on the industry. All Kannada artistes, producers, exhibitors, directors and all others connected with film industry have decided to support the bundh by stopping all activities relating to film industry to draw the attention of the Union government to withdraw the service tax, said a press note from the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC).

The Film Federation of India has convened an executive committee meeting of February 21 in New Delhi and it has also planned to meet chief ministers along with other Central ministers to discuss the issue.
