The department of service tax has decided to cancel nearly 4,000 service tax registrations after it found they were not falling within the tax bracket. The department has also scheduled to hold a one-day de-registration camp on its office premises on February 14 wherein ineligible service tax registration holders can surrender their registrations.
Those willing to cancel their registrations will have to given an undertaking through an affidavit that since the last five years no service tax was collected, and in case, any liability does come up, one is liable to pay. Assistant commissioner service tax SK Bansal said all help would be given to these tax payers de-register.
