An amount of Rs 577 crore has been collected as Value Added Tax (VAT) and passenger tax in the Kashmir valley during this fiscal year, official sources said today.
They said against a target of Rs 490 crore, an amount of Rs 450 crore VAT has been collected by the department in the valley so far this fiscal.
Similarly, Rs 127 crore as passenger tax against target of 157 crore have been realized. Meanwhile, work was going on over the construction of Sales and Taxation office complex at Rambagh at a cost of Rs 30 crore.
The complex, first of its kind with all facilities like auditorium, meeting hall Tribunal Chamber and parking, is being constructed by the Jammu and Kashmir Project Construction Corporation. So far Rs 7.50 crore have been spent on construction of the complex having a plinth area of 17644 sq ft and spread over 20 kannals of land. They said 50 per cent of the work stands completed.
