Vigilance Investigation Bureau sleuths caught commercial tax department official Sitamarhi Vakil Prasad Yadav taking a bribe of a water pump set valued at Rs 15,000 from one trader Manoj Kumar.
The vigilance also carried out a search in the house of Yadav located at Ashiana Nagar. According to the bureau, the house was valued at around Rs 60 lakh and had fittings and consumer items to the tune of Rs 15 lakh. The search also revealed bank accounts having over Rs 5 lakh and insurance cover with over Rs 4 lakh deposit. The search also revealed 47 share certificates, land deposits and jewellery. Yadav was brought to Patna for questioning and will be produced before the vigilance court at Muzaffarpur on Saturday.
According to vigilance police, Kumar complained that Yadav was asking for a free pump set for verification of form C obtained by him in 2003. Yadav threatened to close the business establishment of Kumar if the latter failed to oblige. The trap was laid by the vigilance police and an action team led by DSP Vijay Kumar Srivastava pounced on Yadav after the pump set was delivered to Yadav. This is the 8th trap case of the year.
