The Gujarat government has earned more than Rs 6,500 crore in last two years as Value Added Tax (VAT) charged on the petroleum products.
In a written reply in the assembly, the state government has said that in 2007, the government&aposs VAT income from petroleum products was at Rs 3,206.47 crore which rose to Rs 3,498.29 crore in the subsequent year of 2008.
In two year, the government charged Rs 6704.76 crore as VAT of the retail sell of petroleum products in Gujarat.
Moreover, in reply to another question, the state government has said that it charged Rs 68.29 crore as VAT on the sell of fertilizers in 2006-07 and Rs 81.37 crore in 2007-08.
