A delegation of Vidarbha Industries Association (VIA) interacted with deputy chief minister Ajit Dada Pawar in Mumbai recently.
The delegation requested Pawar, who is also the minister for power and finance, to look into the matter of inordinate delay in refund of Value Added Tax (VAT) by the Sales Tax Department. The members also apprised him of the issue of alleged harassment by the Sales Tax Department to genuine buyers for non-payment of VAT by their suppliers.
The minister took note of the issues raised by VIA members and issued instructions to the concerned department for immediate refund of VAT. He also assured the delegation that genuine VAT collectors will not be harassed for non-payment by suppliers. He announced that that no VAT dealer will be prosecuted.
Commissioner of Sales Tax Sanjay Bhatia was also present during the meeting along with VIA president Prafull Doshi, former president Pravin Tapadia and Rohit Bajaj, as per a press communique issued by VIA.
