FM holds review meeting on revenue collection

Chennai, Jan 6 (PTI) Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee today held discussions on revenue collection for 2011-12 with top officials of Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) and Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) here. The meeting discussed steps for augmentation for revenue in the remanining part of the financial year, an official release said. In his address, Mukherjee suggested that the officials focus on litigations in various appellate forums and collection of arrears to maximise the revenue collection. During the meeting, the challenges faced by the CBEC and CBDT were also discussed and a strategy was also drawn to achieve the revenue target, it said. Revenue and Finance Secretary R S Gujral, CBEC chairman J M Shanti Sundharam, CBDT member Manjari Kacker and all chief commissioners of Central Excise, Customs and Income Tax department participated in the meeting, the release said.
