FIR against central excise commissioner in bribery case

The CBI has registered a case against commissioner (central excise) AK Srivastava for allegedly seeking bribe of Rs 60 lakh from two mobile phone importers.

Srivastava and two others custom official Lallan Ojha and an alleged middleman Hemant Gandhi have been named as accused in the

 
FIR. Investigators conducted searches at more than half a dozen locations in the national capital region in connection with the probe.

According to CBI sources, after the case was registered, Srivastava got admitted in a private hospital in the capital, where he underwent an angioplasty. The probe agency has detained Ojha and Gandhi.
"Gandhi was allegedly acting as a middleman in the whole deal. They conducted raids at the premises of many mobile phone importers in the last month. After that the importers were told to pay Rs 60 lakh to hush up the case. The CBI probe team found information and after registering the case conducted searches," said a source.

The search team also recovered cash worth Rs 3 lakh from the vehicle of an accused. Besides, a cheque of Rs 20 lakh has also been recovered from the Gandhi's premises.

Srivastava is a 1984 batch Indian Revenue Service officer. Srivastava was posted as the commissioner of central excise zone-1 in Delhi.
