Sudhir Chandra, member investigation in the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), has taken over as the new chairman of the apex direct tax board replacing S S N Moorthy, who retired on Friday.

Chandra's selection is considered significant as he has been at the forefront of aggressive investigation carried out by the Income Tax department in many high-profile and politically sensitive cases recently.
