SEIZURE OF FAKE INDIAN CURRENCY NOTES (FICN) HAVING FACE VALUE OF RS. 6,50,000/-
Acting on a specific intelligence, the officers of DRI, Siliguri Regional Unit had searched the residential premises of Shri Shibaji Chakraborty, situated at 59, Videkanandapally, P.S. English Bazar, P.O.& Dist.-Malda on 09.01.2011 and recovered Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) having total face value of Rs. 6,50,000/- which were kept in an old & used cloth bag. Total 1300 pcs. of FICN in 500 denomination were recovered. As per the intelligence the said FICNs were smuggled into India from Bangladesh and after inscribing RBI & Bharat (in devnagari script) on the security strip of each of the notes, the same were being delivered to one person named Mota. On careful examination of the seized FICNs against the genuine currency note, it is revealed that in these FICNs the said inscribed words viz. RBI and Bharat are opaque whereas in genuine notes these are transparent. The said FICN were seized under section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962 on the reason to believe that the same had been smuggled into India from Bangladesh. The person (Indian national) involved in smuggling and keeping the said FICN under his possession was arrested. Further investigation is in progress.
