Mahesh Shah, the city-based property dealer who is in the dock for making a Rs 13,860 crore disclosure under the Income Declaration Scheme 2016 (IDS), has not even paid his property tax for two consecutive years neither has he paid his professional tax since 2010. Both these taxes are collected by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). The civic body has already issued show cause notice to Shah in this regard and has warned that his property will be sealed if the taxes are not paid on time.
According to property tax records, Shah's 4-BHK flat at Mangal Jyot in the posh Satellite area is in the name of his wife and another close family member. His taxes worth Rs 6,767 for two financial years are pending payment. Shah owns a trading firm called Parshwa Traders which operates from his Satellite flat for which he has not paid professional tax since 2010. Shah has to pay a professional tax of Rs 22,030 as per AMC records. Deputy municipal commissioner K L Bachani told TOI, "Shah is not among major tax defaulters of the city. There are many like Shah. But none the less we have issued notices asking him to pay up his taxes or else action will be taken against him."
