ClearTax to help non-filers respond to tax notices with new monitoring system
December, 16th 2015

Tax e-filing website ClearTax today said it will help non-filers respond to the notices sent to them via I-T Department's monitoring system NMS.

"ClearTax can help tax payers suitably respond to notice from Non-filers Monitoring System (NMS) of the tax department.

It targets those who haven't filed income tax return but may have tax dues or anyone who has a break in their tax filing record.

We can also help tax payers prepare and file their tax return where required.
"Details of the notice as well as source (based on which compliance notice has been sent) has been provided by the tax department and there is no reason for any apprehension regarding this notice," the company said in a statement.

NMS is a project launched by the Income Tax Department through which it identifies non-filers with potential tax liabilities and monitors them.
It targets those who haven't filed income tax return but may have tax dues or anyone who has a break in their tax filing record.
Anyone who earns an income of more than Rs 2,50,000 must file an income tax return.

I-T Department has identified filers through AIR (Annual Information Return), CIB (Centralised Information Branch) and TDS statements. The tax department is sending out SMSs, emails and letters to these non-filers, ClearTax said.

The last date to submit a response to such a notice is December 15, 2015.
