INCIDENT REPORT
Seizure of "Yellow metal believed to be Gold" of foreign Origin
On the basis of specific information recorded vide DRI-I No. 01/12 dated
18.11.2012, the Customs Officers of Panitanki Land Customs Station intercepted one
Pereson Named Sri Karna Bahadur Thapa, S/O Late Guman Singh Thapa, Surunga Gaon
Bikash Samity, Ward No. 5, Anchal Mechi, Dist-Jhapa, East Nepal while entering India
from Nepal by a rickshaw. On thorough checking of the said person recovered 14 Pcs
(305.874 Gms) of yellow Metal believed to be of gold of foreign origin from the physical
possession of the said intercepted person. The recovered yellow metal was concealed in the
waistline of the trouser of the said person.
The Customs Officers, therefore on the
reasonable belief that those goods were illicitly been imported into India from Nepal
violating the provisions of Customs Act, seized the same vide seizure case no.
01/IMP/CL/CUS/PNT-LCS/2012 dated 18.11.2012 valued to Rs.9.81.907/-. The
intercepted person on interrogation stated that he is a Nepali Citizen and an Ex-Jawan of
Assam Riffle. The Customs Officers also recovered 06 Nos. of ATM Cards & 3 Nos. of
Cheque Books, one Pass Book and Indian Currency amounting to Rs. 1110/- from the
physical possession of the said intercepted person. On completion of necessary seizure
formalities, the intercepted person has been arrested under Section 104 of the Customs Act
1962 and produced before the Ld.Court of Addl. Chief Judicial Magistrate, Siliguri on
19.11.2012. Further investigation in the case is under progress.
