I-T dept sets up first single-window facility for tax returns
December, 21st 2012

The income tax department is setting up the first Aykar Seva Kendra (ASK) in Panchkula, which will be a single window clearance facility for the filing of income tax returns and will even process the complaints against the department.

The ASK is being opened on December 24 and will be inaugurated by Sudha Sharma, member of Central board of direct taxes (CBDT). Officials said that the facility will be used by people to file their income tax returns and also by those who seek redressal of their grievances and get time-to-time feedback on their complaints. “It will serve a one-stop shop for the tax payees. Instead of going to different departments all the works related to the IT department will be processed from here,” said an official, adding that the Seva Kendra will be only the third in the state of Haryana.

Officials said that works related to the rectification of the errors and other works like giving the people awareness on IT department work will be the other mandate of the ASK. They add that the service will primarily be used by the smaller companies and the people whose income will be less than Rs 10 lakh a year.
“Those people whose income is more than Rs 10 lakh, government has made it mandatory that they should file the IT returns on-line. We have already designated the tax return preparers (TRPs) in the city who are preparing the tax return documents of people,” said one income tax department official.
