4 held for possessing opium

The Prohibition and Excise Department on Wednesday arrested four persons, including a police constable and a High Court lawyer, for allegedly possessing opium. On a tip-off, an eight-member team led by Prohibition and Excise Superintendent C. Smitha raided a place near MMTS railway station on Necklace Road and nabbed APSP constable Ketha Ramu (32) and his associate M. Yadaiah (37). Based on Ramu's confession, High Court advocate R. Venkat Reddy (35) and his associate M. Sharanappa (35) were arrested, Deputy Commissioner of Prohibition and Excise M. M. Faruqui told reporters here. Over 2.5 kg of opium worth over Rs.25 lakh were seized from the four arrested persons. The gang could have procured the contraband either from Ghaziabad in UP or Rajasthan.
