91,783 students to take ICAI CPT entrance exam |
|
December, 13th 2008 |
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) will conduct the Common Proficiency Test (CPT) on December 14, 2008 in 221 centers in 114 cities across the country.
A record number of 91,783 students will appear for the December 14 CPT; while earlier in the year in June, about 76,000 students had appeared for this exam.
Of the total of 91,783 students appearing for the CPT exam; 28,282 are girls.
The CPT entrance examination is conducted twice in a year by the ICAI. The first one this year was conducted in June.
CPT is the entrance exam that a candidate needs to undertake as an entrance level route to the Chartered Accountancy (CA) stream which every intending candidate is to clear before enrolling for the professional state.
After passing 10th standard examination, a student can register with ICAI and prepare for the entry level test while pursuing 10+2 level study.
"It has been observed over the last 3 years that there has been more than a three-fold increase in the number of students who clear the CPT exam and enroll for articleship as compared to the years 2001-2005", an official from the ICAI said.
The performance of girls has been better than boys as is evident from the CPT exam results of June'08 wherein the pass percentage of girl students was 41.37 percent as against 36 percent of the boys.
In line with its efforts to enhance the efficiency in the conduct of examination, the ICAI, for the first time, successfully conducted an online Common Proficiency Test (CPT) on December 7, 2008 in 11 major cities.
