MCG to punish govt officials who bunk census duty

Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon would take strict action against officiails who are not attending census duty.

As many as 630 enumerators from various government departments have been given census-related duties, but about 60 of them haven't joined yet.

"The defaulters mainly include officers from excise and taxation departments, Haryana Roadways and district education department. They have been directed to join dutybefore 2pm on November 12," said YS Gupta, district census officer.

He added that if anyone failed to report for duty by Friday, strict action would be initiated against them. The department has formed three zones in the city and all census officers would need to report to respective zonal officer.

As per the 2011 census, the city has a population of 15.14 lakh. Earlier, the state government had announced a special bonus for the census staff.
