Indian captain M S Dhoni is all set to become the top individual income tax payer in Jharkhand, leaving behind bigwigs of the corporate world.
It is still some months away when Dhoni files his income tax returns for this fiscal. But the Income Tax department expects over Rs six crore taxable returns from the cricketer to become the state's top individual tax payer for the second consecutive year.
"When the department will check on the stipulated date, no individual will match Dhoni's tax payment individual category," a senior officer of the department's Ranchi range said on Tuesday.
India's gloveman leaves far behind corporate leaders in the state, as the cricketer is virtually seen in every second or third advertising for reputed brands.
"If any other top brand makes Dhoni as its ambassador in the next six months, the department might get just double the amount it expects, he said adding as of now the department is hopeful of receiving Rs six crore from him as tax.
While last year Dhoni became the highest individual tax payer, the Central Coalfield Limited ended up at the top in the corporate tax payer category.
The income tax department expects Mahi's 'midas touch' amidst the global economic meltdown that might hit domestic and export orders on which big companies depend to make profits, which in turn, fills up the department's coffers, the official said.
