IT DEPT ISSUES NOTICE TO 15 MINISTERS FOR IMPROPER TAX RETURNS

At lest 15 Madhya Pradesh ministers, including 13 of cabinet rank, were issued notices by the Income Tax department for allegedly failing to file proper tax returns and sought their reply within 10 days.

The Income Tax department has issued notices to nine ministers for filing incomplete IT returns outside Bhopal and six others for not filing the returns at all, official sources said today. However, the sources said that it was a routine exercise carried out in case of receipt of complaints. Leader of Opposition, Jamuna Devi and Bharatiya Jan Shakti General Secretary Prahlad Patel had lodged complaints with the department on the issue following which it independently served notices against 15 ministers after collecting required information, they said. The notices were issued to Ajay Bishnoi, Jayant Malaiya, Nagendra Singh, Tukojirao Puar, Vijay Shah, Narayan Singh Kushwaha, Anoop Mishra, Narottam Mishra, Himmat Kothari, Gopal Bhargav, Laxmikant Sharma, Chandrabhan Singh, Ramakant Tiwari, Kamal Patel and Kusum Mehdele, they added. The notices were sent to their original addresses asking them to send
their replies within 10 days, they said. The IT department has sought explanation on five points besides asking them to provide details about their PAN numbers along with the copies of last year's returns.
