National Economic Advisory Committee of ICAI invites applications for the research work.

In terms of the authority given to the President by the Council at its 351st meeting held on 12th February, 2016, the President has constituted a new Non-Standing Committee i.e. the National Economic Advisory Committee whose main function is to conduct research study into economic affairs of the Country/States and suggest various measures to boost Indian/State Economy for successful implementation of various initiatives of the Government of India/ State Government. 

Accordingly, the Committee in its first meeting held on 9th March, 2016 has discussed various areas of interest wherein ICAI can make significant contributions considering the depth of expertise available with the Institute and its members. Accordingly, the Committee has selected following topics for the research:

  • Improving Revenue (Non-Tax) GDP Ratio at Municipal, State and National level;
  • Improving Tax GDP Ratio at Municipal, State and National level;
  • Ways to improve rank of “Doing Business”;
  • Measures to boost Rural Economy and Effective utilisation of national resources;
  • How to improve rank in Transparency International;
  • Better Financial Management in Government Ministry;
  • How to augment Revenue of Urban Local Bodies.

In the said meeting, the Committee has decided to involve Economist/ Professors/ Chartered Accountants/ Senior Government officials in the Committee. Thereafter, the Committee has re-confirmed the said decision in the second meeting of the Committee held on 30th August, 2016 and advised the office to appoint on an urgent basis under the advice of Chairman/ Vice- Chairman of the Committee. 

In line with the above, the Committee has organised the Research Inculcation Workshop in which Senior Economist, Professors, Chartered Accountants has been invited to address and share the suggestions on the Workshop theme: “How to augment Revenue of Urban Local Bodies” 



Now, the Committee invites applications from individuals, preferably Economist/ Professors, Chartered Accountants, Senior Government officials interested to be associated with it in its upcoming applied research projects. The applicant is expected to hold requisite knowledge and work experience of the areas for which they wish to be considered. The role and duty of the resource person is to compile all the genuine suggestions in the research papers, which will be received from the researchers in due course. The suggestions which are compiled form the basis of concept paper of the Committee and will be placed in the Committee/ Council meeting and thereafter shared with various Municipal Local Bodies, Government Organisations including the relevant Ministry. Honorarium will be given as per the norms of the Institute.
