Pursuant to the Gujarat and Punjab and Haryana High Courts’ order, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the due date for filing of return and tax audit report to October 31 for tax payers across the country.
Jatinder Khurana, a tax professional while welcoming the decision, said the announcement has brought relief to tax payers as the forms were released late this year. Harish Gupta, a chartered accountant, said CBDT’s decision to extend the date throughout the country has come as a big relief. CAs and other professionals got very less time to file their audit and income tax returns as the Income Tax Department came with the return forms late.
The High Court not only extended the date of filing ITR, but also issued directions to the CBDT to ensure that the forms etc. which were to be prescribed for the audit report and e-filing returns, be made available on the first day of April of the assessment year.
