At the recent Annual General Meeting of the Doha Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) the new managing committee was elected for the year 2009 - 2010.
CA Kurian Kuriakose was re-elected for a second term as the Chairman for the year 2009-10. Kuriakose is the Managing Partner for Morison Menon Chartered Accountants Qatar, a QFC licensed audit and consultancy firm in Qatar.
The other members of the new Executive Committee were CA Ganesh Vishnampettai as Vice Chairman, CA Venkat Ramamurthy as Secretary, CA Sheji V as Treasurer. The following were chosen as Committee members; CA Srikaran Venkataramanan, CA Kotesh Katta, CA Hatim Hussain and CA P.D. Patro.
Indian Ambassador HE Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa was the Chief Guest and the President of the ICAI, New Delhi CA Uttam Agarwal was the guest of hour. The Election officer, CA Sanjay Jain conducted the elections. The AGM was followed by cultural programmes by members and their family and dinner.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India is the second largest Accounting body in the world with over 150,000 members. This institute has been established as an autonomous body under an Act of the Indian Parliament and regulates the Accountancy profession in India. The institute has facilitated establishment of similar regulatory institutions in other countries including some of the GCC countries.
The Chapter in Doha was established in the year 1981 and is the oldest among the 20 overseas chapters of the ICAI. It is affiliated to the Indian Embassy in Qatar.
The current membership of the Chapter is over 250 members who hold key positions in private and public sector establishments in Qatar and are actively involved in support and development of accounting profession in Qatar.
The Chapter is actively involved in enhancing and updating the professional knowledge of its members and towards this end, organises several professional lectures and seminars for its members.
