It is for the information of the candidates that in addition to the existing Paper-Pencil mode for Common Proficiency Test scheduled to be held on 14th December 2008 at various Centres throughout the Country, an Online Common Proficiency Test will also be held on 7th December 2008 (Sunday) on experimental basis in 11 Cities. Candidates who have been registered to CPT Course on or before 6th October 2008 and have already passed or appeared in the Senior Secondary Examination (10+2 examination) or its equivalent of a recognized Institution and are interested to take the Online Common Proficiency Test on 7th December 2008, are required to fill up Online Application Form hosted on http://icaiexam.icai.org

It is specifically clarified that admission to Online Test will be done on a first come first served basis and shall be subject to availability of seats in the said Centres. It is further clarified that candidates opting for Online Test shall not be allowed to appear in the Paper-Pencil mode Test scheduled to be held on 14th December 2008 unless and otherwise they have not been so admitted to the Online Test. SYLLABUS FOR THE TEST:
FIRST SESSION (Two hours 100 Marks) Section A : Fundamentals of Accounting ( 60 Marks) Section B : Mercantile Laws ( 40 Marks)
SECOND SESSION (Two hours - 100 Marks) Section C : General Economics ( 50 Marks) Section D : Quantitative Aptitude ( 50 Marks)
There will be a break of half an hour between the two sessions.
MEDIUM OF THE ONLINE TEST: The medium of the Online Test scheduled to be held on 7th December 2008 will be ENGLISH only.
CANDIDATES MAY NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
The Online Test will be limited to the availability of seats at the examination centres in the respective cities specified above.
Application/ Registration for the Online Test should be filled in online at Institutes portal at http://icaiexam.icai.org upto 17.30 hours on 27th October 2008.
Fee of Rs. 400/- (Rupees four hundred only) for admission to the Online Test should be remitted using online payment gateway facility with Visa/Master Card or by Demand Draft/ Pay Order from any scheduled bank, drawn in favour of the Secretary, The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, payable at New Delhi. Once fee details are entered, the system generates a control number and the candidate is required to take a print out of the same and affix the Pass port size photograph and specimen signature at the designated places and send the said application form by Speed Post/ Registered Post so as to reach the Institute at Delhi on or before 31st October 2008. The forms received late i.e. after 31st October 2008 will not be considered under any circumstances.
Once a candidate is registered for Online Test, he/ she will not be allowed to change to Paper-Pencil mode Test unless or otherwise the Institute so decides in view of limited availability of seats for Online Test or for any other reason.
In case of any unexpected development or unavoidable circumstances, where the CPT Online Test cannot be held or gets interrupted during the course of conduct of Online Test, the candidates will be allowed to appear in the Paper-Pencil mode Test on 14th December 2008 in the city where they have opted for Online Test at the discretion of the Institute. However, candidates who have appeared in the CPT Online Test, will under no circumstances be allowed to appear in the CPT Paper-Pencil mode Test on 14th December 2008.
It is assumed that the candidate opting for Online Test has basic familiarity with computers, key board and mouse operation. It is the responsibility of the candidate to acquire these skills before appearing in the Online Test and the Institute shall not take any responsibility for the same. It is a computer based Online Test for which the candidate sits in front of a computer and questions appear on the computer monitor and the candidate submits the answers through the use of keyboard or mouse.
The Institute reserves the right to cancel any Test Centre at its sole discretion, if the circumstance so warrant. In such cases, the candidates allowed to appear from these Centres, will be accommodated in the Paper-Pencil mode Test which will be held on 14th December 2008 in the same cities from where the candidates had opted for the Online Test.
A candidate must fully abide by the rules/ guidelines for appearance in CPT Online Test and in case of any violation of the same, he/ she will be disallowed from appearing in the Test.
In all matters related to the conduct of CPT Online Test the decision of the Council of the Institute will be final.
Candidates should not submit applications for both Online Test to be held on 7th December, 2008 and Paper-Pencil mode Test to be held on 14th December 2008 simultaneously. This will disqualify the student. In other words, a candidate has to choose only one option, and in case, if a candidate applies for admission to both the modes and receives admit cards for both the Tests, appearance in Online Test will be treated as valid and appearance in Paper-Pencil mode Test will automatically be cancelled and no further correspondence will be entertained in the matter.
All students registered for CPT Course on or before 6th October 2008 with the Board of Studies of the Institute and who have already passed/ appeared in 10+2 or its equivalent examination will be eligible to appear in the Online CPT to be held on 7th December 2008. Similarly all students already registered for erstwhile Professional Education Course I (PE-I) and who have exercised the option by applying to Board of Studies of the Institute to switch over to CPT Course on or before 6th October 2008 will be eligible to appear in Online Test of CPT on 7th December 2008
Paper-Pencil mode Common Proficiency Test (CPT) will be held on 14th December 2008 at various Centres throughout the country as given in the List published in the Examination Application Form & Information Brochure, for which candidates can register themselves online on the same site at http://icaiexam.icai.org upto 17.30 hours on 27th October 2008 and take out the print of the Examination Application Form and affix the recent passport size photograph and specimen signature at the designated places in the said print out. Then the filled in application form is required to be submitted to the Institute by Speed Post/Registered Post so as to reach on or before 31st October 2008. Such applications received after 31st October 2008 will not be considered under any circumstances
